Our History
In May 1993, preliminary discussions were held regarding the establishment of a Christian School in the inner north-eastern suburbs of Adelaide. A Steering Committee was formed and, in 1994, a School Board was appointed. The Board began meeting monthly in preparation for the new school - a task which would eventually take three years to bring to fruition.
The former Agricultural Research Laboratories property at Northfield, comprising approximately ten acres, was chosen as the site on which to establish a Primary and High School.
A ministry of Oakden Baptist Church, Cedar College was officially opened on the newly acquired property in 1997. The connection between Cedar College and Oakden Baptist Church provides the school with spiritual leadership as well as pastoral counselling and support.
The first classes began in February 1997, with a school size of just 34 students. The following years saw rapid growth at the school, as young families moved to the new suburb of Northgate. A continual building development program was implemented to cater for the growing numbers, and new facilities have been added each year in line with our growth and Master Plan.
Today Cedar College has almost 600 students and is still growing in both numbers and facilities. The most notable recent addition is the Cedar College Sports Centre, situated on the school property adjacent to the Vickers Vimy Oval.
Our Name
The name ‘Cedar College’ is derived from Psalm 92 v 12 which outlines the growth of a righteous person, pictured as a cedar tree, growing to become strong and vital and leading a fruit-bearing life.
Academic Statement
It is the desire of Cedar College to pursue academic excellence throughout all subject areas and levels of learning. We strive to ensure that this level of excellence is consistent and comprehensive, from Reception through to Year 12.
Our Goals
It is the goal of Cedar College to train children to live, serve and work effectively in God’s world, through a Christ-centred and caring environment. Specifically these goals are:
> To promote and implement high academic standards within the school setting.
> To help each student grasp the fundamental aspects of learning at all levels.
> To teach and encourage the use of good study habits.
> To promote godly character, honour and respect.
> To produce an understanding, appreciation and responsibility for God’s world.
Education Strategy
Cedar College is comprised of three departments - Primary School (Reception to Year 6), Middle School (Year 7 to Year 9) and Senior School (Year 10 to Year 12). These departments allow students to develop academically and socially at an appropriate level, while providing an academic facility that offers a complete education from Reception through to Year 12.
